When Owen Hunt first arrived at Seattle Grace Hospital, it was clear his character was trying to fill the void left by Preston Burke's departure. He and Cristina were immediately attracted to each other. Owen left after they first met because he was to do a tour in Iraq. When he returned to Seattle Grace as Cristina's boss, things weren't quite the same. Owen was distant and cold, much to Cristina's confusion.

Owen later revealed that he was the sole survivor of his tour party and that he was now living in the "after". Owen's trauma changed him. After trying to push Cristina away, Owen finally gave in to his feelings and began pursuing her romantically. It was a selfish decision as he knew he wasn't in the right place to be dating anyone. Owen would continue to cause Cristina great grief - grief that could have been avoided if he had done the honorable thing and kept his distance.

10 Their first kiss after his return was awkward and scary

Owen took care of a homeless war veteran who was taken to the hospital after being crushed in a garbage truck. His injuries were serious and he required care from most of the staff. Unfortunately, the patient did not survive. Cristina approached Owen outside of her local bar to tell him she was sorry they lost their patient.

Little did she know that Owen was triggered by the patient's connection to the war. When she tried to comfort her, he emphatically repeated, "You don't have to be sorry," causing her to pull away from him. After a short pause he kissed her. Their kiss can be interpreted as passionate or intense, but it's just as aggressive and weird.

9 He suggested that Cristina go out with him before she took care of his problems

Owen gave Cristina several mixed signals as soon as he arrived. He often flirted with her but ignored her when he felt uncomfortable. This left Christina frustrated and confused. One day Cristina Owen bluntly said he had a lot of problems. Owen's response was, "So go out with me anyway." He knew he wasn't doing well enough to be romantic, but he still pursued Cristina. Owen was reluctant to seek help for his PTSD. He underestimated the effect his trauma was having on him. As a result, he was aggressive and constantly nervous. Owen was always nervous. His new reflexes made Cristina uneasy. Despite this, he remained adamant when it came to seeking professional help. Teddy explained Cristina couldn't tell him to go to therapy because he was "that kind of guy." It wasn't until he realized that Cristina was shying away from him in fear that he decided to go back to therapy.

5 He often clashes with her best friend

After realizing Owens' unstable mental state, Meredith became concerned for her friend's safety. Meredith remained concerned about Owen's behavior and Cristina's well-being after their marriage. When Owen became Cristina's husband, he wanted to be the main influence in her life.

After the shooting, Owen and Meredith had different opinions on what was the best way to help Cristina. He ironically called Meredith ruthless and stated he didn't want her behavior around his wife. Owen hurt Cristina physically and emotionally. It was immature and hypocritical of him to suddenly declare that he knew what was best for her when he had caused her so much pain.

4 He had feelings for Cristina & Teddy

Teddy's arrival at Seattle Grace Mercy West was no accident. Cristina was longing for a new cardio leader, so Owen brought Teddy to Seattle as a gift for her. When Teddy arrived it was clear they had feelings for each other. Owen's feelings for Teddy were so strong that he asked Derek to give her job to another candidate so she would leave. He was also jealous of Teddy's relationship with Mark Sloan. When Cristina asked him who he loved, he couldn't even answer her. The harrowing events of the shooting helped him decide between Teddy and Cristina.

3 He showed up drunk on their first date

When Owen finally showed up for his date with Cristina, he walked into her apartment in a dazed, neurotic state. It was obvious to Cristina that Owen was drunk. He practically begged Cristina to give him a chance and then disappointed her by showing up drunk on their first date. While he was rambling on about his best surgery, Cristina told him he stinks.

He responded by stepping into her shower fully clothed. Owen was nervous about attending a normal social event like a date, and he coped with it by drinking alcohol. This avoidance led him to an act that not only left him feeling guilty and ashamed, but also traumatized Christina.
